Our poem pick this week comes from American poet, Wendell Berry, born in 1934. He has published over thirty volumes, many with a focus on rural America. Born in Kentucky, raised on a farm, he continues to live in a rural community and writes of the many daily pleasures and tribulations of a farmer. I like the simplicity and reverence always present in his poems. Here’s one of my favorites.
To Know the Dark
To go in the dark with a light is to know the light.
To know the dark, go dark. Go without the sight,
and find that the dark, too, blooms and sings,
and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings.
It’s hard to explain.
Wendell Berry
